Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Mississippi . Although primary prevention of cancer is scarce, early detection, to a large extent improves morbidity and mortality.
As a result, increase in education on early detection of cancers in Mississippi is warranted. COHA cancer education has benefited over 1600 Mississippi 's underserved.
Goal:
To reduce the incidence of cancer death through education and training in underserved areas of Mississippi .
Objective:
To educate targeted groups on these different types of cancer, known causes, and how to prevent them:
- Skin
- Breast
- Lung
- Prostate
- Cervix
- Colon
Action Plan:
- Recruit Physicians and Nurses for the education of participants
- Identify high risk communities
- Provide seminar/workshops
- Make referrals to appropriate health facility for high risk persons identified through the workshops and screening
- Collaborate with local, and state cancer agencies.
