Youth crime remains high in Mississippi . In addition, school drop out rate remains highest in the nation. Every year, since 1999, COHA has provided teen summit to 250 kids from Hinds, Rankin, Pearl , and Madison schools.

Goal:

To assist the youth in making better life choices that would help them better succeed in life.

Objective:

To increase self worth among the participants of the summit

Action Plan: 

• Recruit volunteers to form the committee
• Form sub-committees for the different aspects of the summit
• Charge each sub-committee with a role to accomplish for the summit
• Formulate an outline of issues that face teenagers and lure them into making wrong choices
• Design a summit that will cover the most important issues
• Recruit speakers and performers for the summit
• Arrange entertainment activities for the youth to stay motivated
• Seek donated items for door prices, and meals
• Collaborate with target schools from which youth will be gathered for the summit
• Work with County superintendents for the transportation of the youth
